The next generation of NemID is well under way and has been renamed. NemID will become MitID and the new solution will be a user-friendly and future-orientated key to online banking, Digital Post and much more.

NemID has made it easier to be a citizen in Denmark. 4.7 million Danes have NemID and use it every day.

But the development does not stop here. Therefore, Danish banks and the public sector are collaborating in a partnership in order to develop citizens’ digital key under the name MitID.

“The name, MitID, is not just a new name, it also signals a clear improvement of the current NemID. The 4.7 million users are actually very satisfied. Nevertheless, technological developments demand that we set ourselves new goals. We must secure a more user-friendly and mobile solution for users – a solution that is more flexible than today. This work is well under way and has also been given a new name,” says the CEO of the Danish Agency for Digitisation, Lars Frelle-Petersen.

“We are delighted to be able to contribute to an important part of the IT structure of Danish society. With solid public-private sector cooperation on the new MitID, we can continue to ensure safe access to online banking, public services and other parts of digital life that require confidentiality. MitID will build on a technologically intuitive platform so that users can live digitally without boundaries or worries in the future,” explains CEO of Finance Denmark, Ulrik Nødgaard.

The upcoming solution is undergoing a tendering process.
